Could adding a epsom salt bath to your wellness plan, add to your overall mental and physical wellbeing ?
A Natural Way to Relax and De-stress
If you’re looking for a way to relax and de-stress, an epsom salt bath is a great option. Although there is very little scientific evidence to prove the benefits of an Epsom salt bath, its totally natural and advocates point to numerous benefits, not just for your physical wellbeing but also for your mental and emotional health. They can help your mind, body and spirit!
Epson salts are “magnesium sulphate.” They got their name from a little town in Surrey called Epsom and were discovered by a farmer in the 17th century.
When you use an Epsom salt bath, the magnesium is absorbed through your skin, which may help to relieve stress, tension headaches and inflammation.
What is magnesium?
Magnesium is an essential mineral that the body needs for good health. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps the heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system and helps bones remain strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.
Use as part of the healthy relaxation routine
More research is needed to prove the benefits however adding Epsom salts to your bath can be part of a healthy relaxation routine and is something I enjoy on a regular basis. I consider Epsom Salt baths to be a tool to add into my overall wellness plan on my way towards a world of wellbeing.
Its easy to do
Just put 1 -2 cups of Epsom salts in a bath of hot water and soak for at least 20 minutes. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to your bath for an even more relaxing experience. It is better if the oils are organic.
If your feeling overwhelmed try, lavender, orange, chamomile, sandalwood, frankincense (this is helpful for reducing inflammation.) I find all of these oils are very grounding and centering.
You can also use Epsom salts in a foot soak add 1/2 cup and soak your feet for 20 minutes.
