As a university student, the past two weeks have been a revelation for me. I decided to try meal prepping, and the benefits have been nothing short of transformative.

My meal prepping journey began with a simple goal: to eat healthier and save time. I started with a basic menu, usually a combination of chicken or fish, paired with rice or pasta, and a generous serving of vegetables.

The first benefit I noticed was the time saved. With meals ready to go, I no longer had to scramble to prepare food between classes or late at night. This freed up time for studying, socialising, and much-needed rest. As well as this, having a meal ready for me when I got home stopped the tempting allure of a take-out or a McDonald’s which I often used to succumb to as an easy alternative to dinner.

Next came the health benefits. By controlling what went into my meals, I ensured a balanced diet rich in proteins, complex carbohydrates, and fibre. The chicken and fish provided the protein, the rice and pasta offered the carbs, and the veggies were a great source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre.

The third benefit was financial. Buying ingredients in bulk and cooking at home proved to be much cheaper than eating out or ordering takeaways. As a student, every penny counts, and meal prepping was a great way to stretch my budget.

Lastly, meal prepping helped me reduce waste. By planning my meals, I only bought what I needed, which significantly cut down on food waste.

In conclusion, meal prepping has been a game-changer for me. It has saved me time, improved my health, helped my budget, and reduced waste. As a student, these benefits are invaluable. If you’re a fellow student or anyone looking for a way to eat healthier, save money, and find more time in your day, I highly recommend giving meal prepping a try. It might just change your life as it did mine.
