Going with the flow

Go with the flow of life!

Although difficult to do at times this is something that I try to do in my life. When I get out of the flow, my life changes beyond words can express.

How we set up our lives will determine this flow. If we get caught up in forcing, resisting and being out of flow with our inner balance then you tend to feel feelings of sadness, misery and generally lethargic. I have learned to pick up on the signs when I am in the flow of life or not. When I am in the flow I tend to feel calm, peaceful and things seem to happen with little effort. There is an effortless flow to life, like a gently meandering stream. When you put up resistance then you tend to feel stressed, overwhelmed and generally out of balance. I know which I prefer and although there are lots of temptations in life to knock you off track and draw you into competitiveness, I try to set up my life in a balanced way, carrying out my purpose at a slow, steady, focused deliberate pace, like a snail. A similar analogy is the old proverb of the hare and the tortoise. Like the snail, its the slow, steady, deliberate pace of the tortoise that wins the day and gets you there in the end!

Watching nature teachers us so much about how to move through life. Have a look at nature and watch how it flows along, nicely, evenly and balanced.

Acceptance of how things are and not constantly fighting helps to keep us in balance. It is our choice:

“Flowing with life”

Vs

“Fighting with life”

I say to myself –  “I accept it as it is.”

“Let go and Let God.” This has to be a favourite affirmation!

I believe our health is one of the greatest teachers in life. Being out of flow and balance can often lead to health problems. It can start with headaches, stiffness which are signs that we are out of balance. By listening to our bodies and listening to the signs we can try to slow down and go with the flow a bit more and to come back to balance before more serious health problems could arise. I believe one of the key factors to healing is to live in a calm, relaxed way, that is in tune with nature – going with the flow, just like the snail – slow & steady!

We are in charge and are responsible for our own life. We can chose how we want to live it and what we allow to influence our thoughts. The question is which one do you choose ? which wolf do you feed?!!

It is up to us to choose. Flow is energy and cannot be put into a box. How the energy flows through our life is as a by-product of how we try to set up our lives. Choose wisely my friends.

Finally just some of the ways being, “In Flow,” feels like to me :

Slow pace, free, light like a butterfly, relaxed, peaceful, calm, accepting, joyful, playful, balanced, doing less and being more, gratitude, absorbed, feeling inspired, chilled, creative , in the zone, slow and steady, having courage, fearless.

Empty your bin and dump the crap!

Life is a journey and we gain wisdom along the way.  Releasing old, worn out, outdated ways and behaviours is part of this journey.

The onion represents our mind and as we peel back the layers of the onion bit by bit, we dig deeper, delve deeper, looking at ourselves with curiosity and an open heart and mind with awareness rather than seeing it as something scary or to be feared or judged. We can then access, discover and also remember who we really are.

I am not going to lie, I am going through a purging process at the moment and it is very very painful. I am learning to be kind and gentle to myself and I try to keep remembering that through the storm is myself at the other side, my true authentic self and by finding my true authentic self I will find my freedom !!

I am free!

I am working on releasing the past, letting go of the stuff I am carrying, holding onto and I can then lighten my load. I say dump the crap! … we all don’t need it and I am unsure who said we did??

If you can imagine a bin like the one in the photograph and you just keep piling rubbish on top, more and more and more until eventually it gets full!!

Imagine that bin as your mind? How would you feel? – Pretty heavy? weighed down? as though the weight of the world rests on your shoulders? No wonder we often get sore or tight shoulders is it ? Imagine a SAS soldier carrying a backpack. It would be pretty painful lugging all that weight around. They do it for a mission but imagine carrying it day in and day out throughout your life. Our mind is like the bin. I myself want to be light like a butterfly not weighed down and heavy by the weight of my own and others stuff. Stuff that’s not even my own and there’s only enough time to deal with my own stuff! To release this stuff and empty my bin, I have been writing down my thoughts and then burning my words in a burning bin.

A ceremony ….

A form of cleansing for the soul…

A release of all the excess baggage….

Frogs are sensitive to toxins and pollutants in their environment and if a pond is home to frogs then it is a sign that the pond is healthy and clear. For me therefore a frog symbolises cleansing, clearing of toxic thoughts and energies.

I try to choose healthy ways to release anger.pain, hurt, disappointment. Remember forgiveness is for you, you benefit not the other person. If you are not willing to let it go it leaves you feeling stuck in the past. Remember everything is happening for you not to you.

Forgiveness is for you

Though it is not always easy and takes practice, I try to think to myself, “no thankyou, I don’t want the past holding me back!!! ” Let’s try to move into the new with a clean slate, rubbish free, an empty bin!!!I think we need this more than ever at this time.  Covid and lockdown has tested and taught us to remember all of this.

Its time for change

Time for the NEW!!!!

Time to create something NEW!!

The secret to change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old but on building the new (Socrates)

`I have listed 6 healthy ideas to help release the past and return to love:

  1. Write it down and burn my cares away – safely!!
  2. Walking in forests – I find this is very calming, peaceful, quiet and settling. Nature has so many answers
  3. A physical outlet – Vigorous exercise that gets you out of breath –  I love going on the mini trampoline / rebounder. I find it fun and it gets me out of breath so I see it as a double win!! In fact any exercise that gets you out of breath and where you can have fun. To me there is a place for more controlled exercises like a squat but if possible I prefer movement that I enjoy. I also sometimes  scream at the top of my lungs to release pent up energy and get it all out. My voice is then heard. The universe sees and hears me and I know, I bee…lieve it has my back!
  4. Play – I do something I love, something to get me in the flow. Music is very therapeutic for me.
  5. Cry – I cry it out, shout into a pillow, I cry and tell myself  “its okay” – certain music makes me cry and gets out that pent up stress.
  6. Breathe – Take 10 x  deep belly breaths slow and steady, make the out breath longer than the in breath. Keep going until you feel a calm quiet peace come over you. Sometimes I need to take more than 10 breaths to feel at peace and ease 🙂 )

Capturing Moments

It’s the little things in life !

I live for the little moments in life. My health challenges are my greatest teacher.

They remind me to see the beauty in everything and to be grateful for the small things. I am grateful for so many things. I remember when I could not get out of my bed and I think to myself that if I can get out of bed then anything else is a bonus.

Start each day with a positive thought and a grateful heart (Roy T Bennett)

The little moments create peace for me. WW Matthew snapped these duck pictures when he was on his travels and I saw the profound beauty in it. Capturing beautiful moments fills me with a joy and sense of wonder that cannot be expressed in words.

I try to see the beauty in all moments. Life to me is a set of moments and to me it is to live it and make the best of each moment, even when life is challenging or very very challenging at times. I accept life is a challenge with ups and downs and I try to remember that we grow more in the downs than ups.

Life is for living, experiencing it all along the journey until the end.

Death is not often talked about but we are all going to the same place. There is nothing in life more sure than death.

I remember that I will be eaten by worms one day and returned to the earth.

Men have died from time to time, and worms have eaten them, but not for love (William Shakespeare)

I am just a speck in the universe, just one of  seven billion other people on this planet. There is no point in me thinking I am special or too self important in anyway. This usually keeps the ego that we all have in check,  balanced and in harmony with life. I have learned to love my ego, to see it as a part of me and part of the whole of me.

The duck pictures shows the beauty of nature and reminds me to try to make heart based decisions and choices. I try to remain living my life, a life that is meant for me, following my dreams and not trying to live someone else’s life or dreams.

Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart. (Roy T Bennett)

When a duck strides into my life, it also reminds me of the old saying, “water off a ducks back.” To try and take life less seriously and just  let any unkind comments slide off my back without affecting me.

Lets keep quacking on !! 🙂

Lioness

Speaking from my own perspective as a mother, I think that a mothers love is like no other and reminds me of a lioness. I am imagining myself like a lioness, powerful and strong, like a mothers love. We all love our children and want the best for them.

I am saying this from my heart, not as a “perfect person” or a “perfect mother,” because the need to be perfect is a trap and an illusion that we can all fall into. There is no perfect mum or perfect parent. Trying to be a perfect person and competing to try to achieve this, is a road to nowhere.

A road to Damscus moment which leads to the benefits that radical rethinking can bring

I have learned very quickly to champion myself as a mum. I champion anyone raising children. It’s a challenge, a welcome challenge, but nether the less a challenge. Remember:

It takes a village to raise a baby (African proverb)

This for sure is true and lets’ infuse into this the energy of self compassion. I say to myself, “my child is healthy,” “that’s enough,” “its enough to get through the day intact.” A proud “Champion” mum!

I think this post is a message for today as I have received this message many times myself and it is important to remember:

I am enough

I hope by sharing this today it helps anyone who has been feeling the same way as me at times, remember you are always enough just like the Lioness.

Sometimes it can take time for you to realise how magnificent you are and you will grow into this in time. Remember it’s a process and like life it’s not linear.

A reminder for today:

We are all magnificent mamas!

Some of the inspiring traits of a lioness:

Empowering, extreme love for her cubs, she is bold, fierce, strong, nurturing, Caring and a true queen

Just like you !

What is a wholefood?

Let’s get cleaned up, lets love ourselves!

In 2017 when I was diagnosed with MS I decided to clean up my life and learn how to love myself and I began to transform and to take notice of what I was eating.

A wholefood is a food that is in its original state not changed or manipulated. For example a sweet potato is simply a sweet potato. It is from the ground, a wholefood, with the only ingredient being a sweetpotato.

A sweet potato is simply a sweet potato – no added ingredients.

If my food has many ingredients, I ask myself what are they? Are they needed? How might they be affecting me?

Looking at what you put into your mouth and how it affects you can be an act of self love. Eating what nourishes you is loving yourself. A wholefood is just pure and simple, as nature intended with no junk added to it.

I am conciously nourishing and loving myself and I feel that it’s an act of self love to eat something that is nourishing to my bodies cells.

I say to myself:

My body is like a temple

I honour it

I love you

I am worth it

In life you only get one body and you matter! Love It! Take care of you!

I try hard to remember this!!

With love toward your self, how will you nourish yourself today ??

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food (Hippocrates)

Lets clean up our bodies – Lets nourish and love ourselves

“Bring Back The Sparkle”

I really want to say F*** Covid!!

I have been thinking a lot about how it is time for me to play, relax and to enjoy my life more. Life is for living and Covid can F*** Off haha!!

I could share plenty of stories, ideas and experiences during lockdown and I probably will in time.

For now I choose to live my life and to  play like babies, like children do.

The message today is “PLAY” and to find your sparkle!!

Life has got a little too serious, it has for me anyway. Try to laugh, play and enjoy yourself. Give yourself such a big belly laugh that is so funny you pee yourself!!

The inner child that we all have craves play

Go For It!

10 ways to play for your inner child:

  1. Hopscotch – Chalk in hand I am off to play
  2. Have fun with a baby if you have one. Others children always bring out the inner child. Get the toys and marbles out.
  3. Colour – colouring books of any description
  4. Draw/sketch – there may be a secret artist in you! (Note it does not have to be a Picasso.) “Every child is an artist, the problem is to remain an artist once he grows up” (Pablo Picasso).
  5. Crafts – I love mosaic craft sets, tinkering with bits of old stuff, glue sticks and beautiful inspiring pictures
  6. Lego – play, build, create
  7. Kites – “Lets go fly a kite up to the highest height! Lets go fly a kite and send it soaring, up through the atmosphere, up where the air is clear, oh lets go fly a kite!”
  8. Bake and discover new recipes
  9. Go outside in nature – see birds, snap flowers, snap anything you are drawn too.
  10. Sing – We are not talking Celine Dion or maybe we are!! A budding Celine Dion, let loose, let rip – Maybe you might have the courage to have a go at singing lessons if you so fancy!!

The idea is to have a go

“You don’t know what you can do until you try “(Publius Syrus)
