Foraging for edible food sources

We are all part of nature and I feel we could all benefit from being closer to nature. An area that I would like to learn more about to help me feel more connected to nature is foraging for food. On one of our walks together, my daughter and I saw these beautiful looking mushrooms. I must say, I am a novice but I am really looking forward to learning more about foraging.

Nature provides us with an abundance of food and we can, if we know what we are doing and what to look out for,  forage for our own food, just like our ancestors would have done.

Which also reminds me, I would also love to send my daughter to some kind of forest school where the children are outdoors in nature a lot soaking up the sunlight. It is the kind of life I would have loved as a child,  being out in nature. I think nature really absorbs a child’s mind and is also very healing. A forest school environment would have really suited me and I think it would suit my daughter. I think it would empower her and her individuality, helping her to gain confidence through learning life skills amongst many other things.

Anyway I am so excited to learn more about foraging for food. I am careful what I say as I am unsure wether the mushrooms pictured are edible or not, so disclaimer here. I am only sharing what we found on our walk and we did not eat them, although if I knew more about foraging I am sure some maybe edible. I am a novice on this subject and I am looking to learn more, so if there are any experienced foragers out their willing to teach my daughter and I about finding edible food and what to avoid, we would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

We seem to find a lot of mushrooms on our walks and if I can learn which are the edible ones then they could become an important addition to our nutritional diet. Edible mushrooms are a rich source of sulphur, which can help our bodies to process and remove toxins better by assisting our methylation pathways to work more efficiently!

Mushrooms role in nature is nutrient recycling as they help to break down animal and plant debris allowing the new to come through. As such mushrooms speak to me of renewal, the cycle of life, the old making way for the new and remind me of my own journey of self renewal. On a lighter note they are also fun to look at and remind me of all things magical and whimsical as they often feature in childhood films with cute little Gnomes sat on them.

I am excited about leaning more I look forward to updating this blog with more information on foraging
